VALD Forcedeck & DynaMo Assessment

dynamo1.png

Sports and Spine Physiotherapy now offers ForceDecks, a dual force plate system for analysing strength and imbalance.

With ForceDecks we are able to measure and assess your strength, side-to-side differences and movement through a range of exercises and jumps. Previously limited to elite sporting teams including many of those in the NBA, NRL and AFL, Sports and Spine Physio & Pilates has invested in this technology to make it available to you.

Once your assessment is complete, the system will generate a report of how your body moves and we will use this information to work with you to track progress, this will be accessible to you directly through your MoveHealth app. With the data from the ForceDecks and DynaMo, we will design strength and conditioning programs to help you reach your goals faster: whether that be pain-free, performance, return-to-sport or your daily activities.

We're also able to compare your data to that of people in your similar age group, gender and athletic abilities. This will give you a goalpost and help to achieve your rehab or injury prevention goals.

See a sample of the results report here (this is what we send you after your tests so you can compare your results over time).

What is VALD DynaMo?

VALD DynaMo is a dynamometer – a device used to measure force or power which may be measured in Kilograms (kg) or Newton-meters (Newton’s). If you have ever used a portable luggage scale then you’ve used a dynamometer!

The VALD DynaMo can tell us how much force your body can produce during particular movements like pushing or pulling or moving your arms or legs, and how fast you can produce that force – meaning how powerful or dynamic your actions are, as well as strength measurements. It also contains an inclinometer for measuring your range of movement or joint mobility.

And all of this happens as live data for you to see during testing and can be analysed immediately by our clinicians on the VALD app.

So, what's it used for in our clinic?

VALD DynaMo’s allow our clinicians to show you live data in clear units during your test. We use this to help demonstrate things like:

  • Right vs. left asymmetries

  • Pre-operative vs. Post-operative changes

  • Pre-season vs. mid-season vs. Post-season strength and conditioning changes

  • Progress made over your treatment journey

This information helps both you and our clinicians visualise and track changes to your body over the course of your therapy journey. We can use this information to set SMART goals together to make sure your therapy is taking you where you want to be and beyond!

How Does ForceDeck Work?

ForceDecks gather a complete assessment of strength and power as well as the movements you need to perform in daily activities or sport, including squats, lunges, deadlifts, jumps, hops, push-ups, and more. See your results instantly captured and analysed to allow your practitioner to gather objective data to make decisions for your performance or rehab program.

Who can benefit from ForceDecks and DynaMo analysis?
  • People with injuries pre-op and post-op.

  • Athletes looking to improve their strength and prevent injuries.

  • Exercise plan for older individuals to improve balance and strength and prevent falls.

Performance profiling

  • How quickly do you create force?

  • Are you powerful or strong or both?

  • How strong is one limb versus another?

Fatigue and readiness monitoring

  • Compare your fatigue levels from week to week

  • Are you ready to perform at your best?

Normative data

  • Compare yourself against normative data for age, sport, sex and now VALD have released normative data for different stages of ACL rehab. If you have had an ACL reconstruction, we can now see where you rank compared to others of the same sex and age who have undergone ACL surgery.

Training and rehab progression

  • Compare yourself to your numbers when you were at full fitness and pain-free

Some of the tests include:

  • Countermovement jump: measures your max jump height and how explosive you are. Also measures any side-to-side differences.

  • Squat jump: measures your max jump height, how fast you produce force when jumping and any side-to-side differences.

  • Drop jump: measures your max jump height, how well your body can absorb, load and produce force, and any side-to-side differences.

  • Grip and muscle strength testing with the DynaMo, there are over 300 tests available. This is particularly useful for testing quadricep and hamstring strength post operatively.
